During the analysis, specialists found out that attackers gained access to the infrastructure through an ATM, on which a malicious agent was installed. According to an insider, the hackers remained unnoticed for a long time. But how did the malicious software end up in the ATM’s operating system? Who launched it? And what was it doing while customers were withdrawing money?
In response to our request, the bank’s management reported that a dangerous vulnerability was found in the security policy of the ATMs. To protect the devices' data, they will be updated. For now, Global Digital Bank’s ATMs are disabled.
Residents of State F no longer consider Global Digital Bank to be reliable. Meanwhile, the bank’s management has announced a change in the leadership of the Information Security department.

It was later discovered that a former technical specialist at the bank had decided to go down a dark path: knowing how to execute commands in the ATM’s operating system, the attacker elevated privileges and gained full control over the device. As a result, 32 ATMs were infected with a miner.
Was the attacker only interested in bitcoins? Until the security service completes its investigation, it’s impossible to answer this question accurately. The risks are growing by the minute.
