Event description
Hackers halted a Tube-owned gas tanker as it was sailing along a strait. Experts are already describing it as the largest maritime cyberattack in the history of State F.
The attackers gained access to the tanker control system and shut off the fuel gas supply. As a result, the engine stopped, causing the tanker to lose control and come to a complete halt.
The incident occurred in a narrow strait that is one of the key LNG transportation routes. According to a Tube spokesperson, the tanker carrying a significant amount of gas suddenly stopped in the middle of the strait. The crew attempted to switch to manual control, but due to ongoing malicious interference, the systems kept failing. Tugboats were quickly dispatched to assist the tanker; however, the evacuation was complicated by the size of the vessel and limited maneuvering space.
The incident has caused a collapse in international logistics. The stranded vessel has blocked traffic through the strait in both directions, forcing the authorities to close it to shipping for the time being. This route plays a crucial role in the global transportation of energy resources, and its blockage has already provoked turmoil in the world market.
Experts predict a rise in LNG prices and supply delays, which would affect countries relying on LNG imports. A major energy company has already reported possible disruptions at its power plants due to a fuel shortage.
Dozens of ships, including other tankers and cargo vessels, are waiting for the situation to be resolved, as alternative routes may be congested. The operation to tow the tanker to safety is still in progress, and experts estimate it could take several days due to the challenging conditions. Meanwhile, the authorities are working together with international partners to investigate the incident. An organized hacker group is believed to be behind the attack.

Russian hacktivist threat on Canada’s pipelines is "call to action," top cyber official says
A cybersecurity incident affecting a Canadian gas pipeline was revealed in a trove of leaked U.S. intelligence materials that included an apparently intercepted conversation between a hacking group known as Zarya and an officer at Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB). According to the document, marked Top Secret, during this conversation the hackers claimed they could "increase valve pressure, disable alarms, and initiate an emergency shutdown of an unspecified gas distribution station" located in Canada.
