Event description
Over 50 people were trapped in elevators in the business center run by City Housing & Utilities. A failure occurred in the elevator management system, leaving dozens of employees stuck on the 27th floor.
Security officers and the management of the business center couldn't help the trapped employees, who had to spend almost two hours in a confined space. Several employees had to seek medical attention. "There were 14 people in our elevator, including a pregnant girl. After about an hour, it became hard for us to breathe. Most people started panicking, and some were crying... We were scared that the elevator would fall. Can you imagine what could've happened? Who will be held responsible for this?!" one of the affected employees said.
Business center officials assure that all elevators are now functioning normally and claim that the incident was caused by an outsider who gained access to the elevator system. The case has been referred to the prosecutor's office and the technical inspection agency. City Housing & Utilities faces a fine for violating elevator operation rules. Meanwhile, many employees are asking to work remotely: they fear that the situation will repeat itself.
